The girl was driving a 2002 Saab east on VanWagoner Road and tried to pass two vehicles approaching West Spring Lake Road, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. She could not get her car back onto the eastbound lane or slow down, and ran through the stop sign at the end of VanWagoner and struck some trees.

The girl told police the accelerator of her car stuck, Austin said. She was wearing a seatbelt and was the only occupant of her car.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. She was ticketed for violation of her Level 2 graduated driver's license, Austin said.
