Mike Sosa, 37, suffered broken bones and was admitted to the hospital in fair condition, said Holland Hospital spokesperson Tim Breed.

Three other people were treated for injuries and released, Breed said. They were Ashley Charles, 19, of Fennville; Justin Torres, 20, of Holland; and Alicea Dieppa, 27, of Wyoming.

Sosa and Dieppa were passengers in a 1999 Ford Windstar van driven by Shane Benedict, 25, of Holland.

Benedict was driving west on 24th Street, police said. He stopped for the stop sign at Country Club Road, and then proceeded into the path of a 1997 Honda Civic driven by Charles.

The van rolled over and, trapping one of the occupants who had to be extricated by Holland firefighters, police said.

Benedict left the scene on foot and was located by officers at his parents' residence in Allegan County. He was cooperative and released after providing a statement pending authorization of charges by the Ottawa County prosecutor's office.

Police said they believed alcohol might have been a factor in the 6:20 a.m. crash.
