Man set fire that caused home blast, his death

Muskegon County authorities said a 48-year-old man deliberately started a fire that caused his house to explode, killing him.

Charles Wilbur died Oct. 3 of injuries sustained in an explosion the day before in Muskegon Township.

Muskegon Township Fire Chief Dave Glotzbach said an investigation has determined that Wilbur purposefully set the house on fire using flammable liquids. The fire chief said the conclusion is based on physical evidence and interviews.

Wilbur was the only one home at the time.
