Bruce and Diane Veltema, both 61, were wearing helmets and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. They were taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.

The Veltemas were westbound on Leonard Road shortly after 5 p.m., behind a car driven by William Knallay, 55, of Coopersville.

Knallay, in a 1998 Subaru, started to slow to turn into his driveway. Veltema did not see and stop in time, Austin said. His motorcycle struck the back of the car and flipped, ejecting the riders.

Knallay was not injured.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, Austin said.
