Aidan Riemersma, a backseat passenger in his mother’s 2001 Jeep Cherokee, was taken by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 4:13 p.m. crash. He was listed in fair condition Thursday morning, a hospital spokesperson said.
Police said the child’s mother, Aimee Riemersma, 26, was making a turn from eastbound business I-196 onto northbound 112th Avenue with a green arrow. Her vehicle was hit by a 2000 Chevy pickup truck driven by Zachary Oudman, 23, of Wyoming. Oudman failed to stop for a red light, police said.
Alcohol was not a factor.
The crash is still under investigation.
