A shotgun and a hunting bag full of knives were stolen Sunday night from an unlocked car in South Holiday Hills, said Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Chief Roger DeYoung.

A Mossberg 835 camo shotgun, a bag full of Whitetail Cutlery knives and accessories, and a car radio were taken from a vehicle parked at a residence in the 17000 block of Cherokee Street in Ferrysburg, DeYoung said. The victim, a Kalamazoo man, parked the vehicle close to the house, but left it unlocked.

DeYoung said no other vehicles in the area have been reported entered.

“It seems strange that only one car was hit,” he said.

The chief said he is always concerned “when there is a gun on the street.” He encouraged anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact police.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department at 616-842-1889 or Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT.
