Damage was estimated at about $50,000 in a pole barn fire this morning on River Ridge Drive off 84th Avenue.

Firefighters were called to the Jerome Rogers residence, 8360 River Ridge Drive, at 7 a.m. when the homeowner noticed smoke coming out of the building, said Allendale Fire Chief Mike Keefe, who was in command at the scene.

The fire was electrical in nature, starting in the center of the 30-by-50-foot building, Keefe said. The exact cause is still under investigation.

Damage was contained to the trusses inside the building, Keefe said. An ATV was destroyed and there was also smoke damage to the building contents.

Keefe said there was no exterior damage. There were no animals inside the barn.

Fire departments responding to the scene were Allendale, Coopersville-Polkton and Crockery.

The fire was out by 8 a.m., Keefe said.
