The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Muskegon County, has been lodged at the Orange County (Florida) Jail while awaiting extradition back to Michigan.

Police said a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, ski mask and gloves robbed the Cloverville EZ Mart, 3576 Heights Ravenna Road, at gunpoint shortly after 4 a.m. Nov. 27. He demanded cash from the store's registers and left with it without further incident.

No one was injured during the robbery, Fruitport Township police said.

Investigators discovered a man, identified by police as being close to the scene near the time of the robbery, had purchased the mask and gloves used in the robbery the day before the crime. Police also gathered video evidence suggesting the offender may have been casing at least one other gas station in the area.

Police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s apartment in Muskegon and found clues suggesting he went to Florida.

The Fruitport Township Police Department worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and police agencies in Florida to locate the suspect. He was discovered at a home near Orlando, where he was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon.

The suspect and a female companion, also from Michigan, were interviewed by Fruitport Township detectives at the scene of the arrest. Police are continuing to investigate whether the female subject had any knowledge or involvement in the robbery.
