Gary Welch, 56, of Oscoda fled after sheriff's deputies in Crawford County tried to stop him for crossing the centerline.

Police said Welch led officers through Kalkaska County and into Grand Traverse County early Tuesday. They said he emerged with a rifle outside his ex-wife's home in Traverse City and refused officers' orders to drop it.

Police said Crawford County deputies and Traverse City police fired at him. No officers were wounded.
