Ottawa County man blacks out, drives off I-96

Police said a Jenison man had some kind of medical issue when his car went off I-96 and hit a tree Friday morning.

The vehicle had minor damage and the man sought his own treatment, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Conrad Bucholtz, 63, was driving east on I-96 near Apple Drive in Crockery Township at around 9 a.m. when he momentarily lost consciousness, ran off the roadway and struck a tree, Austin said.

Crockery Township firefighters and North Ottawa Community Hospital ambulance also responded to the scene.
