Speed possible factor in fatal snowmobile crash

West Michigan authorities said speed may be a factor in the death of a 65-year-old Lake County man whose snowmobile struck a tree Monday night.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. in Peacock Township, about 25 miles east of Ludington.

Police identified the victim as Lake County resident Frank Smith.

The Sheriff's Department said Smith may have been going too fast when he missed a curve and crashed.
