Van Buren County Sheriff Dale Gribler said the raid happened Sunday night in Lawrence Township, about 25 miles west of Kalamazoo. He said deputies acting on a tip went to the home, where owner Bobby Johnson showed them roosters and hens he was raising.
Gribler said Johnson acknowledged holding a cockfight.
The sheriff said deputies found cash, blood, feathers and 18 roosters apparently killed in fights in a pole barn. They also found two stolen vehicles.
Johnson was arraigned Monday, given a $20,000 bond and a March 12 court date.
