The boy, who is not being named because he is a minor, pleaded guilty March 6 to charges of hosting a loud party, minor purchasing or consuming alcohol, and allowing consumption by minors of drugs or alcohol on the premises. He posted a $300 bond the same day.
On Feb. 4, police went to a home in the 300 block of River Street in Spring Lake after neighbors complained of a possible breaking and entering. When the officers arrived, they discovered an underage drinking party, which they believed was attended by about 30 young people.
Four people were charged in connection with the party, including the 17-year-old boy who was supposed to be taking care of the home while the homeowners were on vacation. Three of them, including a 16-year-old girl, have yet to make appearances in court, according to the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department.
The homeowners, Doug and Heather DerVartanian, said the house was a mess after the party. Many coats, shoes and other items were left behind when teens fled the property when police showed up.
The DerVartanians also found drugs stashed away in a couple of places, including a toy box in the basement. Their daughter found a lighter in her craft table.
The homeowners said the house-sitter was planning to pay for all of the damages. Still, the DerVartanians said they are disappointed with everyone involved with the party.
The party host will be sentenced April 8.
