Police said Theresa DeVries was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after being extricated from her smashed van by Holland Township firefighters.

Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said DeVries was driving her 2007 Chrysler Town & Country van south on 112th Avenue and stopped at the red light at Chicago Drive at 2:05 p.m. For some reason, her van rolled into the intersection and was hit by a lumber truck heading west on Chicago Drive.

The truck driver, 42-year-old Michael Hillis of Holland, was not hurt, Austin said. The truck had a green light.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Austin said police are checking into whether DeVries had a medical condition that might have factored into the crash, which remains under investigation.
