According to witnesses, 62-year-old Olive Eldredge was leaving the Church of Latter Day Saints on Giles Road in Laketon Township at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. A witness told police that he saw Eldredge get into her green Dodge Durango, but she got out of the vehicle a few seconds later.
The vehicle started rolling backward and the open door hit Eldredge and knocked her to the ground. The front wheel of the vehicle rolled over her and continued in a circle pattern.
The witness said he was able to stop the vehicle from hitting Eldredge a second time.
Eldredge was conscious when Muskegon County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, but she soon lost consciousness. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Eldredge's daughter told police that her mother had moved from Idaho to West Michigan six months ago and went to the church to make quilts.
