Kalamazoo police officials said 43-year-old Grady Shields was charged Monday with felony murder and open murder in connection with the shooting death of Lois Cox in October 1993. Cox disappeared in Kalamazoo on Oct. 20 of that year and her body was found six days later inside her vehicle about 20 miles south in Three Rivers.
Cox vanished after arriving at the industrial sales business she owned.
Shields is currently serving a 15- to 25-year prison sentence for an armed robbery he committed two weeks after Cox's body was found. He is scheduled to be arraigned in a Kalamazoo court on April 24.
