An Ottawa County judge ruled Friday on Davanh Phouangphet's competency.

Phouangphet is charged with murder. His trial is to begin May 14.

Phanh Kim Le, 53, died January 2012 in a Grand Rapids hospital from burns she suffered a few days earlier at a house she owned in Holland Township.

Thong Phouangphet said his brother and Le argued, and the landlady told him to move his music to another part of the house or be evicted. Police said an accelerant was poured on Le and lit.
