Firefighters were called to the home at 18042 Lovell Road, off West Spring Lake Road just north of Van Wagoner Road, at about 8:10 p.m. The initial call was about a dishwasher on fire.

Steven Wiltenburg and Jessica Thompson live in the house.

Thompson said she had just started the dishwasher and left the room.

Wiltenburg said he was coming in from the garage when he saw flames coming from the dishwasher.

The couple evacuated the house with their dog and called 911.

The fire was quickly extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher, a fire official said.

Fire damage was contained to the dishwasher and the surrounding cabinet.

Smoke spread throughout the house and was billowing out the garage when firefighters arrived.

We'll have more details in Thursday's Tribune.
