Rickey Pickett died early this morning at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Pickett was lying next to the tracks in the area of 17th Street and Lincoln Avenue when he was hit by the Amtrak train at about 9:21 p.m., according to Capt. Jack Dykstra of the Holland Police Department.
The engineer saw the man and attempted an emergency stop, but was unable to avoid hitting the victim, police said.
The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Holland Hospital before being transferred to Grand Rapids.
There were passengers on the Amtrak Train but no one was injured
Dykstra said police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
