Police said Sharon Wright, 56, had just left her Spring Lake Township home and was driving her Honda Odyssey south on Fruitport Road. She didn't follow the curve in the roadway and instead went straight.

The car hit the bridge abutment, spun around and flipped over the enbankment at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. It landed right-side-up in knee-deep water.

The only occupant in the car was Wright, and she was out of the vehicle and onto dry land soon after the crash. She was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital with minor injuries, police said. She was treated and released, a hospital official said Thursday morning.

Wright told officers that she didn't know how it happened. Police said her cellphone was in her purse at the time of the crash and they don't believe alcohol was a factor.

"Another foot to the right and she would have gone flying into the lake," said Sgt. Kevin Allman. "It could have been a lot worse had she landed on her top."

Now in this case it was the woman that drove the van off the side of the road, as opposed to the previous article where the man was injured when his car left the road and struck a tree!
In both cases, the drivers stated they had no idea how it happened!
Doing something else other than driving!
Besides the comment about the outcome if she had been another foot to the right, what if there had been someone on the sidewalk?
This is the second one today! How do you drive like this?
Both are very lucky to be alive.

I wondered the same thing. I had rode my bike through there a little bit earlier. She could have easily killed someone with her distracted driving.
