Tim Costello was driving south on Lakeshore Drive at about 8:40 a.m., when his car left the road and struck a tree, police said.

“He doesn’t know why he went off the road,” police said.

He was wearing a seatbelt. Neither alcohol nor texting was a factor, police said.

Costello was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Why would he know why "his car left the road and struck a tree"? Perhaps the auto-pilot malfunctioned?
My car tried to leave the road once, but I turned the wheel, and it came back on the road!
Inexplicable!

What's inexplicable is your ignorance in making a statement like this. You have no idea what caused the driver to do this....think next time before you make a judgment call.

GH55

That was my point, apparently he has no idea either! Fortunately, he didn't go left and take out someone else!
Its not a judgment call, its a call for an effective investigation to determine what he really did so he doesn't do it again and take someone out with him or himself!
Why is this tolerated on the roads?

That's pretty funny GH55. Glad no one was seriously hurt. Glad no one was riding a bike nearby as they would have accused him of intentionally taking him out.

GH55

That would not be too far fetched as someone stated that very thing in another comment to the "Rules of the Road" letter. If you see a biker doing something wrong, coming up from behind, just open your car door and take him out!
