Crockery Township firefighters extinguished a car fire on I-96 just before 10 a.m. Saturday.

Fire Chief Gary Dreyer said a mid-early 2000s Toyota caught fire on the undercarriage as the driver was headed east on the highway through the construction zone.

Both lanes of traffic had to be shut down temporarily to allow firefighters access to the scene, Dreyer said.

The incident occurred just west of 112th Avenue.
