One person was ejected from the vehicle in the crash.

Emergency personnel responded at about 12:45 p.m. to the incident on the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 adjacent to the West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics playground.

Sgt. Joe Steinhauer of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police department said the SUV was northbound on U.S. 31 when the 37-year-old driver swerved to avoid hitting a turkey that ran out into the road.

She hit the turkey, went off the road, over-corrected and the car grabbed and flipped, rolling down the hill next to the highway, Steinhauer said.

A 21-year-old Holland man was ejected from the vehicle, he said.

Also injured were the driver, two female passengers ages 15 and 19, and a 3-year-old boy. A 10-year-old boy was not injured.

Steinhauer said he believed everyone but the 21-year-old male was wearing a seatbelt or in a child seat.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.

The victims were taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital and to a Muskegon hospital, Steinhauer said.

No tickets were issued in the crash, he said.

All of the people in the vehicle were from Holland.

Their names were not released.

At this time, officials have not completely dismissed the possibility that semi-automatic, assault-style weapons were not somehow responsible for today's accident. Please stay tuned for CNN's "Special Report - Crisis on
I-96." TV station helicoptors with thermal imaging are being dispatched to provide "live" up link images from the accident scene. Also, CNN producers are speeding the development of "Special Report - Crisis on I-96" theme music and logo.

Jocularity notwithstanding, I hope that all occupants escape injury.

Seriously ... I love having turkeys around ... I think it is sort of a nice addition to our community ... but they are a real nuisance in the road. I have been noticing a LOT of them in the area between Lake Michigan and Spring Lake ... Not sure what the answer is but they do not seem to care about traffic ... they just sit there and gobble.

Sgt. Joe Steinhauer of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police department said the mini-van????

Its an "SUV", not a van...........geesh.

Zeppy, well...there is a time and a place, you missed on both counts. When the possibility of serious injury comes into play, you may want to take a pause, think a moment, and then don't.

Christopher, you wouldn't think much of them if you saw what they leave in your yard; what a mess.

Say No, you can clearly see the vehicle has conventional opening doors, vans have sliding doors, this is an SUV...geesh your own self.

Well that was fun, next!

ru, that's what I said and SUV, gonna haze me since I didn't say mini-van vs van? Well lets clarify things, its either an Envoy or a Trailblazer, I'd say GMC Envoy cuz of the grill design.

Happy now?, next.

Come on you two - - - - - let's stop your gobbling.
