Woman leads police on 120 mph chase

Police said a woman who led officers on a high-speed chase on Tuesday afternoon was apprehended after her car ran out of gas.

The chase started in Allegan County. The woman, who is described as being suicidal, fled from police at speeds of more than 100 mph. Her vehicle ran out of gas at M-40 and U.S. 31 on the south side of Holland.

"Speeds reached 120-plus mph, until she came up U.S. 31 and proceeded to run out of gas here, at which time she tried to flee on foot and was taken into custody," said Officer Brian Long of the Saugatuck-Douglas Police Department.

The woman could face charges for fleeing and eluding police, as well as obstructing an officer. Her name was not immediately released.
