A passerby discovered the motorcycle along Scenic Drive at Muskegon State Park at about 7 a.m. Thursday. When police arrived, they found the body of 41-year-old Matthew Thies of Fruitport in a wooded ditch, about 30 feet away from his motorcycle.

Thies was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scenic Drive does not have street lights, so authorities said Thies could have been there for several hours. Investigators said it appears that he was traveling south, swerved into the northbound lane and then left the roadway.

Thies was wearing a helmet.
