The 15-year-old Spring Lake boy, Drew Johnson, was traveling west on M-104 near 144th Avenue at about 6 p.m., when a westbound car passed, and then turned into a business in front of him, police said.

An ambulance took the teen to North Ottawa Community Hospital in good condition.

Police said he was wearing his helmet.

Spring Lake High School Principal Mike Gilchrist confirmed this morning that the boy is a freshman at the school.

Johnson suffered two broken bones in his left leg and is scheduled to have surgery this afternoon, said his step-father, Cory Howe.

"He's doing good," Howe said.

Police are looking for a white male in his early 20s driving a green Pontiac, possibly a Grand Am or a Grand Prix.

The car should be damaged and have orange and gray paint from the moped on it, Howe said.

Ahhh, yes, the old "right hook"! Pass 'em then turn right in front of them!

I didn't see them!

It was an accident!

Well... I completely feel for the teenage in this case. If something happens then people need to stop..No matter what it is. To many are driving around on suspended, revoked or no licenses or insurance at all. So they run and make the situation so much worse. On the flip side, My wife yesterday was passed on w. splk road by a motorcyclist. He then proceeded to pull in front of her hit his breaks for no reason. Waived her around and then followed her home requesting she get out of the car. Screaming of how she was too close to him while driving. It was an orange and white bike with penzoil on the side. If anyone knows of the owner please message me. Thanks

How scary! I hope she stayed in the car! This world is getting crazy. My son was assaulted on Grand Haven Road while he was jogging. Another jogger passed him, shoved him and punched him in the face while yelling crazy things at him. Luckily my son got the better of him and got home and called the police.

It sounds like a Honda CBR that says Repsol on it, not penzoil. I can't think of anyone in town that has one, but the cops should be able to easily figure it out - there shouldn't be many registered in the area...

I have seen a bike like that in Spring lake and the other guy is right it does not say Penzoil... I myself am a Biker and people get right on your tail all the time there lucky there isn't more of these incident's. My uncle lived in Texas and carried steel ball bearings with him and would just bounce them off the pavement if a car tailgated him. I do hope you find him though because NO woman should be follow home by anyone for something so stupid....

P.S. give him a right hook for me

Drew get better soon. Karma will find the driver, and karma will win..

These young kids on mo-peds vs. automobiles on the road...not a good thing in my opinion. The teens are way too fresh at driving to be competing with the cars...this teen is 15...not even old enough for a drivers license. I'm sorry that he was hit and glad he's doing okay, but this type of mobility is dangerous...especially on a major highway or through-street, such as, M104 or 31. Mo-peds should possibly be restricted to side streets and residential areas only.
