The fire was quickly extinguished, but it still destroyed the car parked in a lot at Lloyd’s Bayou Senior Apartments Wednesday afternoon, said Deputy Chief Brian Sipe of the Spring Lake Township Fire Department.

Smoke emanated from the engine compartment of the 1999 Dodge Stratus when firefighters arrived. The fire was extinguished without spreading to the next vehicle in the carport, Sipe said.

The vehicle belonged to Jera Drent and was considered a total loss. It was insured, Sipe said.

Firefighters were on the scene about 40 minutes.
