Eight handguns were taken from Renegade River, 106 W. Savidge St. The business is located next door to the Village Hall and police department.

Detective Corey Allard of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department said the guns were taken when the store was broken into sometime between 10:30 p.m. June 26 and 9 a.m. June 27.

Allard said the investigation is ongoing, and he would not release anymore information about the incident.

Storeowner Mike Hewitt confirmed the break-in and theft of guns — but he declined to comment further, citing the investigation.

“I can only tell you the police department is doing a great job,” he said.

Hewitt opened the hunting, camping and survival store about a year ago. He added guns and ammunition to his stock after receiving a federal license.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT or leave a tip online at mosotips.com.
