A 22-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, picked up in a traffic stop, are lodged in the Ottawa County Jail on charges of larceny from motor vehicles.

At approximately 4:50 a.m. on Monday, barking dogs awoke a homeowner in time to see the suspect vehicle leaving the area.

The homeowner discovered that some items were missing from the car parked near his house.

Responding deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department stopped the suspect vehicle – a black Ford Focus – and found sunglasses and electronics taken from at least three separate incidents in the township, said Lt. Mark Bennett.

These crimes occurred in the Lakeshore/Van Buren and Lakeshore/Stanton Street areas of Port Sheldon Township.  The property recovered is valued at nearly $1,000.

Good job by the diligent homeowner and by the OCSD. People, don't leave your cars unlocked at night. I know I am guilty some nights myself. Yes, we live in a wonderful small town area, but low-life snakes like these two are just looking for that opportunity. Don't be an easy target.

At least there is this one good thing about dogs...they do know when someone is messing around and let you know.
