Workers were conducting a normal burn-off about 8 a.m. when some of the debris caught on fire and sparks started shooting out the stack of the business located at the corner of M-104 and Java Boulevard, said Crockery Township Fire Chief Gary Dreyer.
Employees evacuated the building.
Maintenance workers already had the fire under control when firefighters arrived, the chief said.
Fire officials checked for hot spots and assisted with ventilation.
Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Township firefighters were also on the scene because of an automatic response agreement for structure fires, Dreyer said.
Firefighters cleared the scene 45 minutes later.
"Everything has been cleaned and is back in operation," said Anne Kramer, Java Boulevard store manager. "We thank the fire departments for their response and the community for their concern."
