A 1994 Pontiac Firebird driving northbound on State Street failed to stop for a flashing red light at Business Loop 196 just after 1 a.m. A second vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old West Olive woman, Elizabeth Lubben, struck the driver's side door of the Firebird.
Emergency responders declared the driver of the Firebird dead at the scene, and a medical helicopter flew the Firebird's injured passenger to Spectrum hospital in Grand Rapids.
Lubben was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer and had no passengers. She sought treatment at Holland Community Hospital.
Police said it appeared as though all drivers and the passenger wore safety restraints, and no charges had been filed as of 10:49 a.m.
The names of the Firebird's driver and passengers, who lived in the state of New York, were withheld as authorities work to notify family members.
