Sally Derdaele, 70, was northbound on Beacon and was moving into the turn lane about 2:30 p.m. when her Audi convertible was rear-ended, police said.

Her car spun around into the median and ended up facing northbound against a traffic sign.

She suffered minor injuries and headed to North Ottawa Community Hospital as a precautionary measure, officials said.

An 18-year-old Grand Haven man said he was also northbound. He was returning to a nearby pizza business after making a delivery.

He said he momentarily closed his eyes, but did not know what happened when the collision occurred.

His Cadillac went up into the median and knocked down a speed limit sign, before ending back in the travel lane.

He was not injured.

Can't help but think the Cadillac was already in the "clear" turn lane at normal speed with the intention of turning when the Audi decided to enter that same turn lane.

Damage to the front right of the Cadillac and left rear of the Audi may suggest this?

Caddy was at "speed", Audi was last minute brake and/or turn?

Purely speculation of course, just based on damages to vehicles involved.

Regardless of the circumstances, I hope the Audi driver is doing well and has no lasting injuries.

I also hope the young pizza delivery guy is not unfairly judged for his age and occupation. I might have closed my eyes too when I was young and another car cut me off...

I love Jet's Pizza. I do not eat it anymore because of my diet ... but it is very tasty. I hope the company and everyone involves makes it through this ok.
