Police responded to the Jenison Christian School at 7726 Graceland at 2:41 p.m. when staff reported hearing the sounds.

An investigation revealed a 19-year-old Jenison man had been lighting off fireworks nearby, said Sgt. Valerie Weiss of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The school stayed in lockdown as a precautionary measure until police determined the cause of the noise, Weiss said.

“The students and staff at Jenison Christian were never in any danger from the incident,” she said.

Police, who had created a perimeter around the school, cleared the scene a short time later.
