Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said Monday that Audrionna Rhoades, 21, of Shelby Township is charged with child abuse, as well as second-degree murder.

Smith said that Rhoades left her son, James Nelson, buckled to the seat in the van on the morning of Sept. 3, then drove another vehicle to work. He said that 9½ hours later, a roommate noticed James' foot through the window of the van.

The child was freed, but died soon after at a hospital.

Smith said Rhoades was set to be arraigned today in Shelby Township District Court.

She oughta be neutered too so she doesn't end up being a repeat offender.

I think part of her sentence if convicted, should be 9 1/2 hours in a van next July to sit and think.

Everyone who's inclined to immediately condemn this woman should read this article:

It's a study of people who've done the same thing. It made me rethink some of my beliefs on the subject. It's at least a starting point for the discussion. I don't know if this woman was abusive in other ways, but if not, then perhaps we might not be so quick to judge.
