Officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to a fire at Keys Driving School, 800 Washington Ave., at approximately 2 a.m.

They found and quickly extinguished a small fire on the west side of the building exterior, said GHDPS Director Jeff Hawke.

While searching for the suspect, officers found a second fire under a vehicle behind a residence in the neighborhood.

"Based on evidence, both fires are arson," Hawke said.

Police located and arrested the suspect.

Possible charges are being reviewed by the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office.

Damage to the building is estimated in the hundreds of dollars, Hawke said.

I wish we could know more about the profiles of these new waves of criminals. 1 Do they have jobs, 2 Do they have pensions(401k;s don't count as pensions), 3 Do they have health coverage. 4 Are their property taxes up to date. 5 Are they in the arrears for anything. 6 Were they diagnosed with some expensive or unaffordable health condition or illness? 7 Are they UN-employable for some reason(s) or just too old. 8 if they had a pension - did some entity raid, steal or lose it? 9 Housing - is it owned or rented or were they or are they going to be evicted? It would be nice to know - to see the whole picture on why people do these crimes. There has to be some kind of reason.
