State police said Alan Chase, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. Police said Chase was driving south on I-196 in Allegan County's Casco Township. For unknown reasons, his truck crossed the median and struck a northbound semi, according to the state police.

State police are still conducting the investigation, they said Wednesday night.

The other truck was driven by an Indiana man, with his wife as a passenger. The couple was transported to South Haven Hospital, reportedly with minor injuries. Police said they were released from the hospital later Wednesday.

The crash closed the highway in the South Haven area until about 1:30 p.m.

Assisting the troopers at the scene were the Allegan County Sheriff's Department, South Haven Police Department, South Haven Area Emergency Services, the state police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Michigan Department of Transportation.
