Police said Morey Raby was driving east on Riley Street in Holland Township shortly before 10 a.m. and failed to stop at the railroad crossing near Woodside Drive. His Dodge Intrepid was hit by a northbound CSX train.
Raby had to be extricated from his crushed car by Holland Township firefighters. He was taken by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital with serious injuries, said Sgt. David VanderPloeg of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
There were no passengers in Raby's car and the workers on the train were not injured.
The railroad crossing's flashing lights and arms were activated and in position at the time of the crash, VanderPloeg said.
