The bear was spotted in the Wallinwood Springs neighborhood and adjacent golf course at about 1:30 p.m.

"The bear was described as a black bear and did not display any threatening or menacing behavior," said Sgt. Jason Kik of the Sheriff's Department. "Citizens are reminded that the bear is a wild animal and they are encouraged to stay away from the bear. They are reminded not to approach the bear or attempt to feed or photograph him."

Do not attempt to photograph him.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT from Alaska, where they know bears:

After a number of attacks on hikers and campers in Alaska, the Department of Fish & Game released the following advisory:

We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between Black Bear and Grizzly Bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in it and smell like pepper.

I feel safe now knowing just what to do, thanks Prince, I mean Vlad. Just remember to run like, well like Forest, and know that it is better to climb a tree with a bear behind than it is to run in a church with a bare behind. Thus endith the lesson.

Lanivan

As is so often the case, Vlad, you almost had me, until the end....

Wingmaster

LMAO Vlad. I'm up a tree in real bear country right now with a stick and a string trying to keep from falling out.

Excellent advice RU as well.

Hoping Pooh Bear pays a visit to me so I can get some pics.

Triple A weekend in the great outdoors people, get out there and enjoy it.

If you're really out in the woods in a tree right now, for God's sake man, put down the **** phone and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds around you. This place will probably still be here when you get back.

Anytime I leave the city limits I leave it all behind and concentrate on what's ahead. Besides, if you never go away how will we ever miss you????

Lanivan

Now wait a minute, LTA - I would say you are making some very big assumptions here. And I'm not talking about the city limits, the phone, or the woods.

LOL! and you call me incorrigible....

Wingmaster

Lol...these smartphones have awesome cameras and take respectable video. Got some great pics to look at later to keep me sane with all the back n forth here.

LessThanAmused

Silly kid....that back n forth is called discussion. This is a dicussion forum.
Try not to fall out of the tree while you're taking those pics.

Sane? that's not the first word that pops to mind when I think Masterwing. :-)

Yeah, I'm snippy cuz I'm hungry, working on it.

However, the golf course maintenance man, Dan Haagsma, believes it was a case of mistaken identity. He says the callers probably thought his dogs were the bear.

"The call came in right at the same time and I was right in the same spot and I had both dogs," says Haagsma. "They were running side by side so they might have been looking like a bigger animal, and I'm pretty sure that's what was seen."

That's a big frikkin dog! http://i118.photobucket.com/albu...
