Serious three-car crash on I-96

Three cars eastbound on I-96 collided at about 4:15 p.m. Monday between exits 5 and mile marker 6 in Crockery Township.

One car spun around and came to a rest in the inside lane, backwards. Firefighters had to cut that car open to free the driver. Another car came to a rest in the outside lane, and a third car remained in the road as of 4:40 p.m.

Emergency personnel worked to free the cars' occupant to transport him to the hospital, and sheriff's officers sought to control I-96 traffic, which was funneled down to one lane eastbound.

That area of the Interstate has signs warning motorists of a left lane closed ahead for construction.

Wow, that is what speed makes you do. It will put you and others at risk and that is the result. - Dave Contarino
