One car spun around and came to a rest in the inside lane, backwards. Firefighters had to cut that car open to free the driver. Another car came to a rest in the outside lane, and a third car remained in the road as of 4:40 p.m.
Emergency personnel worked to free the cars' occupant to transport him to the hospital, and sheriff's officers sought to control I-96 traffic, which was funneled down to one lane eastbound.
That area of the Interstate has signs warning motorists of a left lane closed ahead for construction.
