Assault and battery charges are pending, said Chief Jeff Hawke, director of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Police responded to a call of an assault in progress at about 3:23 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Third and Elliott streets.
Nearby they found 18-year-old Nathan Randles, who had been punched, thrown down and kicked in the head.
Police immediately searched the area for four suspects, including the man who was arrested.
This was not a random act, Hawke said.
“The victim recognized and identified the main aggressor, whom the victim knows from a family relationship,” the chief said.
Paramedics treated Randles at the scene for minor injuries.
The assault was not gang related, Hawke said.
It remains under investigation and further charges may be sought for the other suspects.
