The crash occurred about 6:20 a.m. on M-40 south of the I-196 overpass.

Holland Police reported the victim was 30-year-old Zeeland resident Joshua Hoppe.

He was traveling south on M-40 in his 2009 Ford Fusion when the semi-tractor trailer pulled out of a truck stop in front of him, police said.

The 2014 Kenworth semi was driven by David St. John, 54, of Wellston. St. John was not injured.

Holland Victim Services personnel were called to assist and notify the family of the victim who was a teacher for Hamilton Public Schools.

The road in front of the truck stop, 4630 Lincoln Road/M-40, was closed for several hours during the investigation.

Police cleared the scene just before 10 a.m.
