Man injured in farming incident

A man cleaning out a piece of farm equipment was injured when his clothing was caught in his tractor’s power take off shaft late Saturday afternoon.

An ambulance took Holland Township resident Timothy Vanderzwaag, 38, to Holland Hospital with possible head and leg injuries, after the 5:15 p.m. incident, said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Vanderzwaag was transferred to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. His condition was unknown.

Police said Vanderzwaag was spreading manure in a field near 120th Avenue. When the manure trailer was emptied, he stopped to scrape out the rest when his clothes were caught.

The man drove his tractor to the road in the 7000 block of 120th Avenue to meet first responders.

What a crappy way to get the shaft! This could have easily happened to anybody in D.C. as they are spreading...
