A driver said he tried to avoid hitting another vehicle, then slid on the ice, jumped the curb and careened into a room at the America's Best Value Inn & Suites, 680 E. 24th St., at about 4:45 a.m.
Kristina Gillespie was sleeping at the time when the car slammed into her bed. It pushed her bed up against a dresser and knocked a television onto the floor.
A neighbor in the next room felt the crash, too.
"I thought the ceiling was going to cave in," recalled Tiffany Cooper.
Gillespie believes the headboard saved her life.
"I'm blessed to be alive," she said. "Someone was looking out for me, that's for sure."
Gillespie suffered a minor arm injury. The driver, who was not hurt, told her he was only going 10 mph at the time.
