Holland public safety officers were called to the area near 145 Columbia at the Window on the Waterfront park at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The women were trapped in the ice and "sub-surface mud" while trying to rescue their dog.
Crews were able to get both women and the dog to safety.
The women were taken to Holland Hospital to be evaluated for hypothermia.
The Holland Township and Park Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
Venturing out on the ice can be dangerous, police and fire officials said, and should be avoided unless the thickness and composition of the ice are known and proper precautions can be taken. Ice conditions on Lake Macatawa and its tributaries vary and should never be considered entirely safe, officials said.
