The 32-year-old man from the Livingston County community of Green Oak Township was shot in the buttocks Thursday evening at the Home Depot in Brighton. Police said it appears he was reaching for his wallet when he inadvertently grabbed the pistol and a shot fired.

The man was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

Police said the man had a license to carry the concealed weapon and no charges will be filed.

Accidents like this are far more likely to happen compared to actually needing to shoot someone to protect yourself. You want to carry concealed- fine, but at least make sure you know what you're doing and be extremely careful.

"* According to the CDC, there were about 18,498 gun-related accidents that resulted in death or an emergency room visit during 2001[131] (the earliest year such data is available from the CDC[132]). This is roughly 27 times lower than the CDC's 1994 estimate for the number of times Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes.[133]"

While your comment fits with the gun control mantra, it is not supported by facts.

It would be interesting to know whether this particular incident would be counted toward the 18,498. It says he was treated at the hospital, but I wonder whether it was an emergency room visit. I would guess that the majority of gun accidents when someone is injured are not serious enough to result in death or an emergency room visit.

I'm generally pro- gun rights, but I do think those who carry often take needless risks and don't always treat a gun with the respect it deserves.

Well done with the link-supported argument!

Love the pic! That says more about this incident than the whole story!
