Police: Suspect arrested in MSU shootings

Police say they've arrested "a possible suspect" in the fatal shooting of a Michigan State University student and the shooting of another MSU student from Grand Haven.

The shootings happened Jan. 31 at an East Lansing apartment complex.

The East Lansing Police Department, with the assistance of several area law enforcement partners, said late Tuesday that they have identified a possible suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of MSU student Dominique James Nolff.

The man was arrested by the Grand Rapids Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Grand Rapids address on Michigan Department of Corrections absconding charges. His name was not immediately released.

Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Background Information:

On Jan. 31 at 8:48 p.m., the East Lansing Police Department responded to the 200 block of Cedar Street in East Lansing on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, it was discovered that two victims had suffered gunshot wounds while inside their apartment. Both victims were transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

One of the two victims, 20-year-old MSU student Dominique James Nolff from Middleville, died from multiple gunshot wounds at 9:23 a.m. Feb. 1.

The second victim, Corbin Holwerda of Grand Haven, also 20, was treated for a single gunshot wound and was released from the hospital.
