The deputy was treated at a local hospital for leg and head injuries, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Wildfong.

Police said the deputy was working a motorist assist near the 14-mile marker on eastbound I-96. A car had slid off the highway into the median.

The deputy had just gotten into his vehicle about 10:40 p.m. when the cruiser was struck from behind and pushed into the car being removed by the tow truck.

Wildfong said there were no other injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was ticketed for going too fast for road conditions.
