Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

“The driver said she also took her eyes off the road to look at her phone,” said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said April Trievel was driving her 2004 Chrysler Pacifica north on 148th Avenue, near Lori Lane and north of State Road, at a high rate of speed. Wildfong said the SUV crossed the centerline, went off the west side of the road and struck a tree at 10:37 p.m.

Wildfong said Trievel said she was not wearing a seat belt because it was broken prior to the crash. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

An ambulance took Trievel to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, where she was treated for her injuries, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Sheriff’s Department.

Spring Lake Township firefighters also responded to the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.

Your in the system now!!

Going too fast, no seatbelt, drinking, distracted, dark, hits a tree...this is a textbook "when nearly evrything goes wrong" kind of an accident.

These are my favorite kind of accident stories. No fatalities, and the only person injured is the idiot drunk driver who admitted to being on her phone. Hope you enjoy your license suspension and driver responsibility fees.

I'm assuming she blew through the 4 way stop at State Road too. Thanks god she didn't kill anyone.

"Her condition is unknown." Really, I can tell you what condition her condition is in...and it sure isn't pretty.

Accident,predestined to happen.
