Police said Danny Scott Thompson, 49, was part of a crew taking down a barn on 40th Avenue, north of Cleveland Street, when a wall support beam came down and struck him at about 11:40 a.m.

Sgt. Kevin Allman of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said Thompson suffered back and chest injuries.

While Thompson was not trapped, the structure had to be stabilized while emergency personnel treated him and removed him from the scene. He was taken to Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids by the Aeromed helicopter, and was listed in stable condition on Wednesday afternoon, Allman said.
