Desarae Evelyn Begay, 20, of the Holland area, and a 2-year-old boy in her car were transported by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital after the 3:38 p.m. crash.

Begay was in serious condition and the child was in fair condition at the time, reported Sgt. Kevin Alman of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Hunter Christian Powers, 17, of Rockford, also suffered serious injuries and were transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

Police said Begay was traveling east on M-45 when she failed to stop for a red light and hit Power’s car in the left front portion.

Powers was northbound on 8th Avenue at the time.

Both drivers wore seatbelts. The child was properly restrained in a child seat in the back seat of the car, Alman said.

The crash is still under investigation.
